A Day in the Life

I often think of things I'd like to put on the blog, then never get around to it. A review of our day today helps me understand how that happens and gives a glimpse into this crazy whirlwind I call life.

7:00 am – Drag body out of bed after hitting snooze alarm for the last ½ hour, hop in shower, and get ready to face the day.
7:30 am - Finish cleaning house for my MOPS discussion group coming over for a playdate.
8:00 am - Put on 1st of 3 loads of laundry for the day.
8:30 am - Bake banana bread for playdate.
9:00 am - Put on coffee and pot of water for tea.
9:15 am - Welcome 4 moms & 6 kids for playdate.
9:25 am - Hear Brady say, "Mom, Luke’s crying from the bathroom and I can’t open the door." Luke has apparently figured out how to lock doors.
9:26 am - Dig around for mini screwdriver to unlock bathroom door while mom friends smile knowingly.
9:27 am - Extract Luke from the bathroom, tape lock so it won’t happen again.
9:45 am - Cut boys off from gorging themselves on banana bread.
10:00 am - Play, referee, chat.
11:30 am - Say goodbye to playgroup.
12:00 pm- Fix lunch & feed boys
1:00 pm - Run to grocery store to get stuff to make meal for good friends that just had a baby
1:40 pm - Run into our church’s children’s minister as we’re leaving grocery store – Brady says “I didn’t know she knew how to get to our grocery store. "
1:41 pm - Realize Brady isn’t aware our children’s minister lives two streets away from us.
1:55 pm - Put Luke down for a nap
2:00 pm - Go outside with Brady, two shovels, a garden rake and a hoe in an attempt to shovel/chip the sleet, snow and ice from last weeks storms of the driveway.
2:30 pm - Pause to watch the cool new trash truck pick up trash along our street.
2:32 pm - Resume “shoveling.”
3:00 pm - Decide we’re cold and go inside. Results: one hour of work, approximately 5% of the driveway done. Decide to give up on the driveway until spring.
3:15 pm - Make one phone call and send two emails for work. Get next to nothing accomplished.
3:30 pm - Cook up a storm – one meal for good friends with new baby and the same thing for our freezer.
5:15 pm - Pack up boys and take meal to good friends.
6:00 pm - Hold sweet little baby boy and chat with good friends while my boys play on the floor with sweet baby’s big brother. Life is good.
6:45 pm - Arrive back home and heat up leftovers and feed boys.
7:00 pm - Ryan comes home – Yay! Reinforcements!
7:30 pm - Finish sorting laundry while Ryan plays with boys then gets them ready for bed.
8:00 pm - Bedtime hugs & kisses all around.
8:15 pm - Paint 3 doors while Ryan packs house.
9:50 pm - Realize I didn’t return friend’s call from earlier in the day. Too late now. Grrr.
9:51 pm - Resume painting doors .
10:30 pm - Sit down and finish work emails. Accomplish a little more than previous attempt, but not much.
11:30 pm - Finish 3rd load of laundry.
11:50 pm - Bang out blog post.
12:05 am - Call it a night. (morning?)

Then it starts all over again. Tomorrow's agenda - preschool shuttle service, bathroom towel bar shopping, sealing grout on floor tile, completing door painting, finishing laundry, book club and somewhere in there taking care of and playing with the boys, the most important item of all.

Summertime and the Living's Easy

All of the winter weather has me longing for summer and going through vacation photos from our trip to Great Mountain National Park and Gatlinberg, TN. We had such a great time.

Lunches on the go:

(Note the sandwich on top of the car)

And naps on the go:

Hikes to waterfalls:

And hikes with rocks to climb along the way:

Gemstones to pan for at tourist traps:

And plenty of dirt to play in.

Winter winter go away. Come again some other year.
