Brady had his first visit to the ER yesterday. Two hours and six stitches later and he was good to go. Brady tripped while walking at daycare and whacked his head on the edge of a table on the way down. I took him to the same hospital that he was born in which has a new pediatric section to their ER complete with fish tanks, toys in the exam rooms, and really good doctors and nurses. Brady had a good time except for when they had to restrain him by strapping him onto a board to put the stitches in. The doctor, who by the way has children of her own, sat down with me before we left to review the instructions for Brady's care.
Doctor: You'll need to keep his head dry for the next 5 days, no swimming, sweating,
etc.
Me: No problem.
Doctor: Don't let him pick at the bandage.
Me:
Hmmm. That might be a little harder.
Doctor (as she hands me the leftover gauze and tape): Keep him from bumping his head for the next 5 days.
Me (in my head): You're kidding, right? Got any bubble wrap you can send with us too?
In all seriousness, the doctor was really great, and we're trying very hard to keep Brady from bumping his head, which we are 100% successful at when he's sleeping.
